: I don't understand these Please help Thanks,
Solve by completing the square
1. x^2 - 6x = 16
I get (6/2)^2 = 9/4 = (x-9/4)^2 then I am lost.
2. 2x^2 - 3x + 1 = 0 I get as far as
2^2 - 3x =1
x^2 3/2 = 1/2
x^2 9/4 = 1/2 Now I am lost
3. x^2 - x - 1 = 0 Is this just {1,-1}

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X^2 - 6X = 16
Complete the square in the left
X^2 - 6X + 9 - 9 = 16
(X-3)^2 - 9 = 16
(X-3)^2 = 25
(X-3)^2 = 5^2
so
X-3 = 5 ===> X = 8
or
X-3 = -5 ===> X = -2
Answer : X = -2 or 8
