%28x%2B7%29%28x-7%29=0 Factor the left side by using the difference of squares method


Now set each factor equal to zero:
x%2B7=0 or x-7=0

x=-7 or x=7 Now solve for x in each case


So our answer is
x=-7 or x=7


Notice if we graph y=x%5E2-49 we can see that the roots are x=-7 and x=7 . So this visually verifies our answer.
