To find the Maximum or Minimum of a quadratic formula you simply use the same equation of {{{(-b)/(2*a). You will know if you're finding the max or min by looking at your a value. If your a value is negative then it's max but if your a value is positive then it's a min. Once you have completely simplified that formula you will have your xvalue for your max/min. This means to find your complete max/min you must plug in your xvalue and solve for y. And thus you have your max/min of the equation. The max/min is often called the vertex as well. This problem might show up if u are asked when x is at its highest point. For example in a projectile problem if you are asked how high the object will get and how long it'll take to get there, you would use the above steps. height would be your y value and time will be your x {{{graph( 10, 9, 12, 13, 8, 20, 5x^2+13x-5, x-2, 3-x ) }}} The max/min (or even vertex) can be seen on the graph where it changes direction.
