Question 198121: Lance wanted to see how long it would take to ride 100 miles. After 2 hours of riding, he had only gone 30 miles. He increased his speed by 5 mi/h and maintained that pace for the rest of the trip. How long did it take Lance to ride 100 miles?
What I've done so far: I took the 30 miles divided it by 2 hours; got that he's traveling at 15 mi/h. I then took the 15 mi/h and added 5 mi/h; to get 20 mi/h that he'll travel for the rest of the trip. Then here's where I get confused, I used the formula time = distance over time. which would be time = 70 mi. left over 20 mi/h. I came up with 3.5 hours to ride the remaining 70 miles. I then would add 2 hours with the 3.5 hours to get 5.5 hours. It would take Lance 5.5 hours to ride 100 miles. Is this correct?

Question 198126: The turtle and the hare have a race that is 1 mile long. The turtle plods along steadily so that he will finish in 3 hours. The hare take a nap at the starting line for 2.8 hours, wakes up, and hops hurriedly to catch the turtle. How fast will the hare have to hop, to tie the race? This is what I've got so far:
I took the 3 hours that it will take the turtle and subtracted the 2.8 hours that the hare was sleeping, I came up with .2 hours that the hare has left to tie the race. I then used the formula speed = distance over time; which gave me 1 mile over .2 hours which would equal 5 mi/h. The hare would have to travel 5 mi/h to tie the turtle.

Question 198136: Miguel walks 3 kilometers to school in 40 minutes. On Saturday he plans to walk to a friend's house which is 1 kilometer past school. How long will it take him to walk to his friend's house? This is what I have:
I took 40 minutes divided it by 3 kilometers to find that it's taking him 13.3 min. to walk one kilometer. I then multiplied that by the 4 total kilometers he would walk to his friend's house and I came up with 53.3 min. So it would take Miguel 53 min. to walk to his friend's house, is this correct?

Question 198129: It took Keiko 15 minutes to walk 1 mile to the store. Then she walked 2 more miles from the store to the beach it took her 45 minutes. What was her average speed in miles per hour? This is what I did:
I added the 15 min. and 45 min. and got that she walked 3 miles in 1 hour.
You would then use the formula for speed. Speed = 3 miles over 1 hour.
Keiko average speed was 3 mi/h.

Question 198123: A long distance runner completes the first half of a 26 mile marathon in 2 hours. How fast will she have to run the rest of the race in order to finish in 5 hours total? Ok this is what I have done so far:
I took the 26 miles divided it in half to find that she traveled 13 miles in 2 hours. I then used the formula speed = distance over time. She has to run 13 miles left to run divided by the 3 hours she has left. I came up with 4.3 mi/h.
