Question 170096: Ratio and Proportion
2. A new virus is released on the internet; the administrator of a department's Local Area Network ( LAN) is given five minutes by a manager to estimate the impact. The administrator samples 15 of the PCs connected to the LAN, and finds that 9 are infected; use proportion to estimate the number of infected PCs if there are a total of 202 PCs connected to the LAN.
This problem has me totally confused! Again, I am not good a word problems. I never know where to start, I have been trying to work out the problem, but I don't know where to begin. Please help me!

Question 170097: Ratio and Proportion
1. A lawyer bills her clients $200 per hour of service. If a client's case requires 39 hours to complete, use proportion to calculate how much the client will owe the lawyer (excluding tax).
I am having a really hard time figuring out this word problem. I have always had trouble figuring them out because I never know where to begin. I figured it I multiply 39*200=7,800.00, but I know this is totally wrong. Can you please help me! I have two more word problems to do that are similar to this. Thank you so much for assisting.

Question 170098: Ratio and Proportion
3. An administrator of a popular web site is told that a new server can handle 41,000 "hits" (users accessing the site) per second. The web site currently experiences a peak demand of about 105,000 hits per second; but every month, the peak demand increases by 2800 hits per second. Use a proportion equation to determine how many new servers the administrator should buy to address expected traffic for the next 24 months.
Again, I am stumped on word problems. I had 24 questions and the last three are word problems that totally gets me confused because I don't know where to begin and what information I need to get started. Can someone please help me with this? It would be greatly appreciated!

Question 171905: Hello, to anyone that can help, this is a story problem and the bane of my existance. I will be appreciative to anyone who can help. Here it is:
To estimate animal populations, biologists count the total number of animals in a small section of a habitat. The total population of animals is directly proportional to the size of the habitat (in acres) polled.First we are asked to a write an equation using only one variable that could be used to solve for the constant of variation k.
Then it says that they surveyed 100 miles of ground and found 12 deer. They want the constant of variation k.
And the third part to the question: if the entire nature preserve is 2,500 acres, then what is the total white tail deer population in the preserve?
I think that the first question might be y=kx? But I can't be sure and then I cannot figure out how that affects problem number two. I think the third one is just a simple ration or proportion equation that would be
100/12=2500/x which would make x 300. Again not sure, and can't figure out how this fits in with the first two parts of the question. Please help, and thank you in advance

Question 176133: Hi there. I'm currently trying to complete an assignment and the first question has me stumped. I've tried looking up how to do it, tried ratio etc and can't for the life of me work out the formula I'm meant to use. The question as printed is as follows:
'A commercial developer is considering three brown field sites on the perimeter of Leeds city centre. All plots are being sold by Leeds City Council at prices such that plot A is £20 000 less than plot B, and plot B is £ 30 000 more than plot C. The sale of the three plots will generate an income of £3 190 000 for the council. Determine the sale price for each plot.'
Thanks in advance for your help.
