Question 1022390: http://prntscr.com/a8z5eq
So, I figured out 24 meters for a using the altitude is the mean of the segments of a triangle theorem. However, I can't figure out what to do for b. My teacher does NOT want us to use the Pythagorean theorem for this. In fact, we haven't even learned it yet (it comes later in the course). The only things we've learned helping us up to answer this problem is geometric mean, the theorem I just mentioned, angle-bisector-theorem, and the theorem that say the altitude of the hypotenuse of a right triangle separates the hypotenuse so that the length of each leg of the triangle is the geometric mean of the length of the hypotenuse and and the length of the segment of the hypotenuse adjacent to the leg. She wants us to work off of all or a few of those theorems, but I just can't just to figure it out.

Question 1017351: Hi, I am having trouble working out this question, help would be much appreciated.
An electrically charged particle generates an electric field around it. The strength, E, of the electric field (in NC^-1) is directly proportional to the size of the charge of the particle, Q (in Coulombs, C), and inversely proportional to the square of the distance from it, d in metres.
(i). Set up the proportionality relationship
This is what I think the formula is but not sure if it is correct?
E (NC^-1)= k * (Q/D^2)
And then theirs question (ii)
(ii). Find the constant of proportionality if the electric field strength 3.00 cm from a 3.5 uC charge is 3.5 x 10^7 NC^-1
This is what I've worked out so far not sure if it is correct though?
3.5 * 10^7 = K * Q/(0.03)^2
3.5 * 10^7 = K * Q/(0.09)

Question 1024627: Y varies directly to x^2. If x is decreased
by 200%, find the percentage decrease in y.
My solution-- y=kx^2
1. X itself is 100% so if decrease by 200%,
the new x will be x-x-x= -x
2. The new y = k (-x)^2------= kx^2
3. Percent decrease =. Kx^2- kx^2)/ kx^2
Step 3 made me confused if y= 0%
