Question 1017546: Hi, I am having trouble working out this question, help would be much appreciated.
An electrically charged particle generates an electric field around it. The strength, E, of the electric field (in NC^-1) is directly proportional to the size of the charge of the particle, Q (in Coulombs, C), and inversely proportional to the square of the distance from it, d in metres.
(i). Set up the proportionality relationship
This is what I think the formula is but not sure if it is correct?
E (NC^-1)= k * (Q/D^2)
And then theirs question (ii)
(ii). Find the constant of proportionality if the electric field strength 3.00 cm from a 3.5 uC charge is 3.5 x 10^7 NC^-1
This is what I've worked out so far not sure if it is correct though?
3.5 * 10^7 = K * Q/(0.03)^2
3.5 * 10^7 = K * Q/(0.09)

Question 1019908: Hi! I am a 7th grade pre-algebra student and I was trying to complete a homework packet with this title: Percent Proportion Word Problems. The directions are: Solve each word problem. Show each proportion and label each answer. The question I need help on is as follows:
The movie theater has 250 seats. 225 seats were sold for the current showing. Write a proportion and solve for the percent of seats that are empty.
I tried out this problem and set up my proportion like this: 225 x
--- = ---
250 100
when I solved for x using the cross multiply method, I got: 22,500 = 250x and then I divided by 250 so: 22,500 = 250x
------ ----
250 250
My answer was x = 90%. I thought this was a good answer but when I looked back, my answer didn't seem to make sense. I would GREATLY appreciate it if someone could help me out and explain to me what I did wrong! So for any replies I get: thanks in advance!!!
P.S. I'm sorry my proportions look a little weird on the computer but it's supposed to be 225 over 250 equals x over 100. For the division it was supposed to be 22,500 over/ divide by 250 equals 250x over/divide by 250. Once again, I'm really sorry if this caused any confusion.
