You can put this solution on YOUR website!
At an animal shelter the ratio of cats to dogs is 4 to 7 .If there are 27 more dogs than cats how many cats are there at the shelter
-------
Note: 4 to 7 is the same as 4x to 7x where 4x = # of cats
------
Equation:
7x - 4x = 27
3x = 27
x = 9
-----
Ans: # of cats = 4x = 4*9 = 36
----------

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+d+=+c+%2B+27+
+c%2Fd+=+4%2F7+
+c+=+%28+4%2F7+%29%2Ad+
+c+=+%28+4%2F7%29%2A%28+c+%2B+27+%29+
+c+=+%28+4%2F7%29%2Ac+%2B+108%2F7+
+%28+3%2F7%29%2Ac+=+108%2F7+
+3c+=+108+
+c+=+36+
There are 36 cats
---------------
check:
+d+=+c+%2B+27+
+d+=+36+%2B+27+
+d+=+63+
and
+c%2Fd+=+4%2F7+
+36%2F63+=+4%2F7+
Divide top and bottom of left side by +9+
+4%2F7+=+4%2F7+
OK
