Question 980128: The ratio of the volume of three bottles is 5:3:2. These three bottles are filled with water and phenyl. The ratio of measurement of phenyl and water in three bottles each are 2:3, 1:2 and 1:3 respectively. 1/3 part of first bottle, 1/2 part of second bottle and 2/3 part of the third bottle are mixed together. Let work out the ratio of phenyl and water in new solution.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let, the volume of three bottles be 60, 36, 24 liters.

.

We should note that, when a sample from any bottle is taken, the ratio of phenyl and water remains same as that in the bottle.
The below gives the amount of phenyl and water from the three samples taken from each bottle.

When the three samples are mixed, total amount of phenyl = 18 liters and water=36 liters.
Hence, the new solution has the ratio of phenyl and water as 1:2.
