Question 95417: the length of a rectangle is 8 more than twice the width. The ratio of length to width is 12 to 5. Find the length and the width of the rectangle.

(I tried solving it as 12/5 = 2x+8/2x. I then cross multiplied and got 5(2x+8)=12(2x). I used the distributive property to get 5 times 2x+40=12 times 2x. I do not know how to solve past there though.)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the denominator on the right side of your first equation should be x, not 2x

5(2x+8)=12x ... 10x+40=12x ... 40=2x ... x=20

length=48, width=20
