You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= number of students in the class
If 55% are boys, there are 0.55x boys in the class.
If the number of girls is 4 less than the number of boys,
there are 0.55x-4 girls in the class.
Adding up the numbers of boys and gitls in the class,
there are 0.55x%2B%280.55x-4%29=1.1x-4 students,
and that is the same as x students, so
1.1x-4=x --> 1.1x=x%2B4 --> 1.1x-x=4 --> 0.1x=4%29%29%29+--%3E+%7B%7B%7Bx=4%2F0.1 --> highlight%28x=40%29

I did not even see the proportions in that, but I guess that they are in
(number of boys)/x=55/100 --> (number of boys)/x=0.55 --> number of boys=0.55x
