Question 764048: To estimate the number of bass in a lake, wildlife biologists tagged 50 bass and released them in the lake. Later they netted 108 bass and found that 27 of them were tagged. Approximately how many bass are in the lake?
I tryed that tag/total=tag/total way, but I am getting really confused. I know you have to cross multiply. But what I am confused about is where to plug in the numbers or if matters where they are plugged at.
Thank you in advance for trying to help or even help me. :) Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054) (Show Source):
Bass tagged in lake Bass tagged in net
-------------------- = ---------------------
Total bass in lake Total bass in net
27x = 108·50
27x = 5400
x = 200
