Question 711105: On a map, the scale is 5 centimeters = 5 kilometers, what is the map distance if the actual distance is 5.6 km? Answer by jndarrell(58) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Just like stated in the problem...cm=km. Plug the numbers in, keeping the cm in the same place on both sides of the equations whether it be the numerator or denominator. Your preference.
5cm/5km = 'x'cm/5.6km
Cross Multiply
5x=28
Divide both sides by 5 to get x alone
x=5.6
Make sure to include your units of measure in your solution "5.6cm"
To check your work, plug the solution for x back into the original equation and work it through.
