You can put this solution on YOUR website! Add up the number of thirds in 8 and 1/3
One has three thirds in it, right?
Eight has eight times as many or 8 X 3 = 24
So eight has 24/3 in it
--------
How many fourths are in three?
There are four fourths in one
so there are three times that or 12 fourths in three
so three has 12/4 in it
----------
How many thirds are in 8 and 1/3?
We decided there are 24/3 in 8, so add one more
that means there are 25/3 in 8 and 1/3
-----------
How many fourths are there in 3 and 3/4?
We decided there are 12/4 in 3, so add 3 more
There are 15/4 in 3 and 3/4
----------
Now divide 25/3 by 15/4 like the problem says
If you multiply the same number by both the
numerator and denominator, the value does not change
It's the same as multiplying by one
Now multiply top and bottom by 4/3
Again, it's the same as multiplying by one because
The denominator equals one
You need practice, that's all
try things like how many 1/10s are in one?
so how many 1/10s are in 10?
There are 100 1/10s in 10
how many 1/10s are in 100?
there are 1000 1/10s in 100
so how many 1/10s are in 107?
1000 + 7 = 1007
It's just practice
