Yes, there is indeed a formula, while its not "Technical" its a way you can do any percentage problem you will ever run into.


+percent%2F100+=+Part%2FWhole+
The 100 never changes, because a percentage is a number compared to 100, the other numbers will vary, you will be given two and need to find the thrid.
Another way to think of this is +percent%2F100+=+is%2Fof+
Since 68 is your percent, and the problem asks "of 50" you substitute what you know
68%2F100+=+X%2F50 Now cross multiply
+100X+=+%2868%29%2A%2850%29+ Muliply
+100X+=+3400+ Divide both sides by 100
+X+=+34+
So 34 is 68% of 50. And you can use this formula for any percentage problem you need.
