An appliance store sold a refrigerator for $775. The sale price was 25% off after an instant rebate of $25.00. What was the original price of the refrigerator?

Let x = original price
x-25 = price after $25 instant rebate

Now you want to find 75% of that. Percent literally means "per 100" so 75% is equivalent to the fraction 75/100 (and also equivalent to the decimal 0.75, but that is for future reference).

So the proportion is
