You can put this solution on YOUR website! There are 1400 students in a school. The teacher to student ratio is 1:35. How many additional teachers are needed to reduce the ratio to 1:20?
------------------------
teachers:: x
students:: 35x
--------
Equation::
x + 35x = 1400
36x = 1400
x = 39 when rounded up (teachers now)
35x = 1400-39 = 1361 (students now)
-------
New numbers::
1/20 = (39+K)/1361
-----
1361 = 20*39+20k
20k = 481
k = 24 (# of teachers to add)
-----------
