Question 23904: It has been found that the distance from a persons eye to the end of the fingers of his out reached hand is proportional to the distance between his eyes at a 10:1 ratio. If the distance between your eyes is 2.3 inches, what should the distance from your eye to your outstrecthed fingers be?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a proportion problem. The distances compared are
the distance between the eyes( say dist1) and the distance from the eye to the outstretched fingers (say dist2).
if the distance between the eyes is 1 inch then the distance from the eye to the outstretched fingers is 10 inches.
( here use some common sense, the bigger distance is 10; and that is the bigger distance between dist1 and dist2.. i think for most of us humans dist2 is definitely bigger than dist1)
Now we have
dist1 = 1 inch, then dist2 = 10 inches
what is dist2 if dist1 = 2.3"
Simple proportion
dist2%2F10 = 2.3%2F1
Solve for dist2
dist2 = 23 inches.
