Option I

Total price = 629*8%+629 -150
=$529.32
Option II

discount 25% off
Total price = 649*8% +649 - 25%*649

        The solution in the post by @mananth is correct for XYZ-Tronic and is wrong for TEC-U-COMP.
        So, I will make two solutions correctly.

8% sales tax on the price before any rebates Option I XYZ-Tronic price - $629 mail-in rebate $150 Total payment = 629*8% + 629 -150 = $529.32 Option II TEC-U-COMP price - $649 discount 25% off, so the price after the discount is 649 - 0.25*649 = 486.75 The 8% tax on the price of $486.75 is 0.08*486.75 = 38.94 dollars. Total payment = $486.75 + $38.94 = $525.69 ANSWER. Option II (TEC-U-COMP) is cheaper.
