The ratio of men to women at a collage is 7:5. How many women student are there if there are 360 student?
------------
7x + 5x = 360
12x = 360
x = 30
--> 5*30 women
= 150 women
============
Or:
M:W = 7:5
5M = 7W
M + W = 360
M = 360 - W
Sub for M
5*(360-W) = 7W
1800 - 5W = 7W
12W = 1800
W = 150

Women are represented by 5 parts out of a total of 12 (7 + 5) parts.
With the number of women being W, and using a PROPORTION, we get: matrix%281%2C3%2C+5%2F12%2C+%22=%22%2C+W%2F360%29
12W = 5(360) ------ Cross-multiplying
W, or number of women = highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C3%2C+5%28360%29%2F12%2C+%22=%22%2C+150%29%29
