Question 24005: I don't understand this we have finals this week, could you please answer and explain the answer for me.
Write a compound inequality that represents each situation. Graph your solution.
1. All real numbers that are greater that -6 but less than 6
2. all real numbers at least -6 and at most 3
There are a, b, c answers hoever I can't the a, b c, answers because of symbols used

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. let number be x

so,
a) greater than -6 is x>-6 or -6 and
b) less than 6 is x<6

Written together, we have -6
2.
at least -6 is x>=-6 since "at least" means it can be equal to -6
and
at most 3 is x<=3 since "at most" means it can equal 3.

Written together, we have -6<=x<=3

As for graphing them...

you need a straight line running from -6 to +6 in 1. and from -6 to +3 in 2.

You use a circle to highlight the ends. The circle is either hollow or solid (colour it in) depending upon if you have "<" or "<=" etc. I cannot remember which way round it is...your notes will explain the difference.
