You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Joe walked to the edge of the jungle in 3 hours.
He ran back to camp in 1 hour.
How far away was the edge of the jungle if Joe ran 8 miles per hour faster than he walked?
:
Find the rate he walked first
r = walking speed
then
(r+8) = running speed
:
The dist there and back is equal so write distance equation: Dist = time * rate
:
3r = 1(r+8)
:
3r = r + 8
:
3r - r = 8
:
2r = 8
:
r = 4 mph he walked, 12 mph he ran
:
Find the distance to the jungle:
3 * 4 = 12 mi; walking
1 * 12 = 12 mi; running
