Question 1084658: Can you please help me solve this problem step by step?
Samuel has a square deck in his backyard. He has decided to remodel his deck by increasing the length of the deck by four feet. Due to space constrictions in Samuel's backyard, he has decided not to alter the width during the remodel.
The area of Samuel's remodeled deck is given by the polynomial below, where x is the side measure of the original square deck.
A(x) = x^2 + 4x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the area of the remodeled square deck is x^2 + 4x

the measure of each side of the original side of the square deck is x.

the area would be length * width.

with a square deck, the length and width are the same, therefore the area would be x * x = x^2.

he remodels by increasing the length of the deck by 4 feet.

therefore, the length is now (x + 4) and the width is still x.

the area of the remodeled deck is (x + 4) * x which is equal to x^2 + 4x.

everything checks out, but i'm not sure what the question is.
