You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the perimeter of a kite JAPS is 64cm. the length of one of its sides is 14cm more than half the length of another. find the length of each side of the kite:
-----
Since the kite is symmetric,
short side + longer side = 32cm
---
longer = shorter + 14 cm
--------
Using labels::
L + S = 32
L - S = 14
----
2L = 46
L = 23 cm (the longer side)
----
S = 32-23 = 9 cm (the shorter side)
-----------

By definition, a kite has two pairs of equal sides.

as you can see in the figure above, AB=AD and BC=DC. So, as a formula we can say:

perimeter P=+2a%2B2b ..........eq.1
where:
a is the length of each side in one pair
b is the length of each side in the other pair
if given that the length of one of its sides is 14cm+more than half the length of another, we have
a=b%2F2%2B14cm......eq.2
since the perimeter of a kite is P=64cm, we have
64cm=+2%28b%2F2%2B14cm%29%2B2b.....solve for b
64cm=+b%2B28cm%2B2b
64cm-28cm=+3b
36cm=+3b
36cm%2F3=+b
highlight%28b=12cm%29
now go to eq.2 and find a
a=12cm%2F2%2B14cm
a=6cm%2B14cm
highlight%28a=20cm%29
