-b/2a gives the x-coordinate of the vertex of the parabola with general equation ax%5E2+%2B+bx+%2B+c+=+f%28x%29


In this problem a=2 and b=-8 so the x-coordinate of the vertex is -(-8)/2*(2) = 2.


Plug 2 into the equation to find the y-coordinate of the vertex.


2(2)^2 -8*(2) + 7 = 2*4-16+7 = -1


The vertex is (2,-1)
