Question 593618: I need help on how to solve this problem: 8c - (c - 5) > c + 17. Can you please help me?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The key thing in these kinds of problems is to simplify all like terms together. Whatever is left leads you to the answer. Simplify means put all the "c" terms together, all the constants together, and if there were any higher power terms (e.g., c^2 (c squared) or c^3 (c cubed), etc.) combine them together too, adding or subtracting their coefficients (the numbers in from of the "c"s) as appropriate.
...
8c - (c - 5) > c + 17
8c - c -(-)5 > c + 17
7c + 5 > c + 17
...
subtract a "c" from both sides to get rid of the c on the right of the inequality:
7c - c + 5 > c - c + 17
6c + 5 > 17
...
put all the constants on the right side by subtracting 5 from both sides:
6c + 5 - 5 > 17 - 5
6c > 12
...
divide both sides by 6:
c > 2
...
