I presume you are trying to render the percent sign. Yep, the awkwardness is tremendous. But no matter. 60% is the same as 0.60 and "of" means multiply in this context. Just multiply 0.60 times 50.

60% of 50 (there is a percent key [shift 5] on the keyboard)
=50*0.6=30 the asterisk is the times sign because x is used as a variable so often.
