Question 344975: how do you solve this problem.can you please show it step by step..
my question.
A very large wall is 100 feet wide and 20 feet tall. A painter can paint 300 squared feet in one hour. Howlong will it take the painter to paint the whole wall?
here is the multiple choice
is it A) 0.8 hours
B) 60 hours
C) 0.3 hours
D) 6.7 hours Answer by jsmallt9(3758) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! "300 square feet": Only area is measured in square feet. So we need to find the area of the wall to be painted. Walls are rectangles, usually, and areas of rectangles are found by multiplying the length by the width. So the area of the wall to be painted is:
A = 100 * 20 = 2000
The painter can paint 300 square feet in one hour and he/she has 2000 square feet to paint. So the question is: How many 300's are in 2000? With a little mental math we can determine that there are between 6 and 7 300's in 2000. So the answer must be D since it is the only answer between 6 and 7.
(Note: 6.7 hours is a rounded off answer. The actual answer is hours.)
