Okay, so imagine you have a bunch of numbers and letters in your math expression, like 3x + 2y + 5x - 7y. These are called "steps." Now, similar terms are similar terms. In other words, they have the same line(s) with the same side(s).
In our grammar, 3x and 5x are like words because they have the letter ‘x’. Similarly, 2y and 7y are like words because they have the letter ‘y.’ Now, you can add or subtract similar words.
Let’s add such words:
3x + 5x = 8x (because 3x + 5x = 8x) .
2y - 7y = -5y (because 2y - 7y = -5y) .
So now our explanation is 8x - 5y.
You see, if you have similar words, you can combine them to make your presentation easier. It’s like putting an apple in an apple, an orange, and an orange together. This makes the math a bit easier when dealing with polynomials algebraically.
