Question 884571: If I had a grade of 92% (which was worth 50% of the course), and then I took a final exam worth 50% and my final overall percentage for the whole course was 89%, what percentage did I receive for my final exam, and how do I calculate this?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(92 + x) / 2 = 89
Multiply each side by 2 to get rid of the pesky fraction.
92 + x = 178
Subtract 92 from each side
x = 86
.
86 is a good score, but not enough to keep your grade at an A level. You would have needed an 88 for that. If this is a real-life situation, I would ask the instructor if there was a way to earn those two points.
.
Note: the reason you divided by two was because each portion (final, coursework) was worth 1%2F2 of your grade.
