Question 4724: I would like to know the formula please for figuring out what % a number is of a total number. Example: What % is $4340 of the total cost of $14,979? I would like the formula please so I can figure out the other two numbers myself (what percentage are $4103 and $6536 of the total $14,979.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! You can solve this type of problem by using proportions.
x/100 = (is #)/(of #)
If you know the percent, then replace the x with the percent number. If you are trying to find the percent, like when it says...what percent...the x is the "what"
The (is #) and the (of #) are the numbers given in the problem when it says, for example...what percent (this is the x/100) is $4340 (here's the is #) of $14,979 (this is the of #).
I'll set up your first question:
What percent (x/100) is $4340 of $14,979 ($4340/$14,979)
Putting it all together, we have:
x/100 = $4340/$14,979 Solve for x and don't forget to put the % sign on your answer.
