The quick and easy way to solve the problem is to use a graphing calculator like the TI83 or TI84 that has the ability to find minimum values of functions.

You could take the derivative of the function and set it equal to zero to find the value of x where the slope is 0 and therefore where the function value is minimum. But setting the derivative equal to 0 gives you an equation that can't be solved algebraically; you would have to use numerical methods -- e.g., a graphing calculator.

So you might as well just go ahead and graph the given function using a graphing calculator....
