You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the number that is (4/5) of the way from 1(1/4) to -6(2/3).
Distance between 1(1/4) and -6(2/3)=
1(1/4)-(-6(2/3))=1(1/4)+6(2/3)=
5/4+20/3 LCM is 12
5/4=15/12
20/3=80/12 so we have
(15+80)/12=95/12
Distance between 1(1/4) and -6(2/3)= 95/12 units
4/5 of 95/12 units =(4/5)(95/12)=95/15=19/3 units
Also, 1/5 of 95/12=19/12 units
We have the distance between 1(1/4) and -6(2/3),now we need to find (4/5) of the way from 1(1/4) towards -6(2/3)which equals:
1(1/4)-19/3= (Note: we are going in the negative direction)
5/4-19/3; LCM is 12
(15-76)/12=-61/12 ------------------number we are looking for
CK
We will go 1/5 of the way from -6(2/3) to 1(1/4) and we are going in the positive direction so we must add 19/12:
-6(2/3)+19/12=
-20/3+19/12= LCM is 12
(-80+19)/12=
-61/12 units -----------------the number we are looking for
