You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Petunia and Petal worked for 5 hours and completed 1(1/24) jobs. if Petal took 12 hours to do 1 job, how long did it take petunia to do 2 jobs?
----------------
Working together DATA:
Time = 5 hrs/[(25/24)job]; Rate= 1/5 [(25/24)job/hr]=(5/24)(j/h)
--------------
Petal DATA:
Time=12 hrs/job ; Rate = (1/12) job/hr.
------------------
Petunia DATA:
Time= x hrs/job ; Rate = (1/x)job/hr
-------------------------
EQUATION:
rate + rate = rate together
(1/12)(j/h) + (1/x)(j/h) = (5/24)(j/h)
Multiply thru by 24x to get:
2x+24=5x
3x=24
x=8 hours for Petunia to do one job.
2x=16 hrs for Petunia to do two jobs.
