Question 248762: I have a candy cane that has a diameter of .5 inches and height of 6.0". I want
to wrap a stripe around the cane. I will wrap it 6 times equally from bottom up. What is the length of the stripe? I know that the c=pi(d) however the stripe must travel up some
distance..

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
picture a piece of paper wrapped exactly once around the candy cane
___ if you drew a diagonal on the paper, you would get one stripe spiraling along the entire length

now picture a transparent wrapper
___ if the wrapper is long enough to go exactly 6 times around, then you will get 6 complete spirals

the width of the wrapper is 6.0" and the length is (6 * .5 * pi)"

use Pythagoras to find the length of the diagonal
