Perimeter is the distance you would walk around the outside of something, such as a fenced yard or a pool.

Area is what you would have to paint over, such as a wall, or the time it takes to vacuum a floor.

Assuming you mean surface area of a solid:
It's related to how much paint it would take to change the color.

Volume is how much liquid you can put in something, such as a (cylinder) drinking glass.
