Question 1013132: for this problem: A segment has a midpoint at (2,-7) and an endpoint at (8,5). What are the coordinates of the other endpoints?
How do you solve
%28x%2B8%29%2F2=+2
.
and
%28y%2B5%29%2F2=-7
.
I seriously don't know how to solve this.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The x coordinate , %28x%2B8%29%2F2=2
Do what you ALREADY KNOW HOW to do...
%28%28x%2B8%29%2F2%292=2%2A2

x%2B8=4

x%2B8-8=4-8

highlight%28x=-4%29-----------That is one of them. Now can you find y?

-
y=-19

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
That's the correct start...now multiply both sides of each by two and get
x+8 = 4 and y+5 = -14
x = -4 and y = -19
The other endpoint is (-4, -19).

.
%28x%2B8%29%2F2=2 . Multiply each side by 2.
x%2B8=4 . Subtract 8 from both sides
x=-4
.
The x value is -4.
.
%28y%2B5%29%2F2=-7
y%2B5=-14
y=-19
.
The y value is -19.
.
ANSWER: The other endpoint is (-4,-19)
