Question 94342: AHi. I was wondering if I could recieve help on the following problem:
I know you do order of operations, but I do not know if it matters if I multiply or divide first after I get the exponent.
4 - 4^2 divided by 8 x 3 + 6
What I did was get 4 -16 divided by 8 x 3 + 6
Then if I multiplied first, I would get 4 - 16 divided by 24 + 6
Then I would get 4 - 2/3 + 6. Then I'd get 9 and 1/3.
On my calculator I got 4, but that would only work if I divided before I multiplied. I know division and multiplication are inverse opperations, so would it be okay if I divided first and got 4 as the answer?
Thanks.

Question 94340: ``Hi, I need help with the problem:
3+ (1 + 2^3)^2
I keep getting different answers. When I worked it I got 68, but when I used my calculator it said 84. When I worked it, I squared the 1 and got 1 and squared the 2^3 and got 2^6. Then I added 1 to the 64 (2^6) and got 65. Then I added 3 and got 68. I know how the caluclator got 84, but the way I learned it you are supposed to multiple by the 2 first. If you could help me that would be great.
Thanks
