Question 36843: Gosh I need help here! If 5+3 x4 means 5+(3x4) and not (5+3)x4 because multiplication always takes precedence over addidtion(which I understand). What are the standard precedence rules for the usual operations in arthmetic.
P.S. Not sure if this a word problem. Thanks for any help I can get.

Question 37234: Hey, I'm really having trouble with this problem...I can't figure out which step to do first!
(((5-4w+12=-2(3w-8)+w)))
I know how to do the Distributive Property, and I simplified the expression down to [5-4w+12=-5w-16], but after that I am at loss for what to do next. I really need an answer by tomorrow morning, if possible, and I would appreciate it SOOOOOO much! Thank you!

Question 37733: The problem is (5 1/2)/ (4 3/4)
This is for an online algebra class. I tried to follow the example which shows how to change the mixed fraction into a improper fraction adn then you multiply to get you answer. When I did that i came up with 5/7*7/3 but you flip the second fraction adn you get 3/7*5/7 and that gave me 15/49. But these are multiple choice questions and that answer was not one of the ones that i can choose from. I did the problem many more times and still have not come up with an answer that is one of my choices. If it helps my choices are: 22/19 19/22 110/8 12/5 209/8 13/4 Can you help me with this problem? The lesson is mixed expression and complex fractions

Question 38251: find (f . g)(x) and (g . f)(x) for each function
f(x)=-6x+9, g(x)=5x+7
f(x)=4x^2+2x+8, g(x)= x+5
f(x)=2/x^4, g(x)=2square root x+2
f(x)=8x+12, g(x)=3x-1
f(x)=5x+3, g(x)=-x^2+4x+3
f(x)=1/x, g(x)=8x^2-6
