Question 979278: -3y/5 = -6
My question is -3y/5 means that 3y/5 is a negative expression. When simplifying by multiplying both sides by 5, why is 5 positive when it came from an expression that is negative? I don't understand why I times by 5 and not -5 for both sides when five comes from a negative fraction.

You can multiply by 5 or -5.
You can multiply by -1 first, then 5.
Makes no difference.
