this is where I'm having trouble...........
1.)Write an equation that models how old in years each of you will be, when your ages add up to 150 years old. For example, if x = your age and the eldest person was a year older than you, you would write their age as x + 1. Then the equation would be: x + (x+1) = 150.
Explain the reasoning which helped you develop your equation.
2.)Solve for your future ages. Are your answers reasonable, do they add up to 150?

3.)At some point during the lives of you and the youngest person, your age will be three times his/her age at that moment. Write an equation which models how old in years each of you will be when you are three times as old as the younger person.

Solve the equation for your ages when you are three times as old as the youngest person. Are your answers reasonable?

x + (x+2) = 150

y + (y+24) = 150

x + (x+2) = 150
2x=148
x=74 x+2=76
y + (y+24) = 150
2y=126
y=63
y+24=87
2b)
28-4=24
3) 28+x=3*(4+x)
In x years you will be 3 times your son's age
We have to add x to both ages
4)28+x=12+3x
26=2x
13=x
28+13=3*(4+13)
41=3*(17)
when you are 41 you will be three times older than your son who will be 17
very reasonable. Algebra is like magic.
