If x is Amy's age next year, then her mom's age next year 2x (because next year amy will be exactly half her mother's age)
This year Amy's mom is one year younger then next year, so her age is 2x-1

Amy will be X next year which is equal to half of her mother's.
Therefore, her mother's age today will be;
1/2 = X
which is 2X "cross multiplication"
Testing:
Her mother is 2X now and Amy will be exactly half her mother's age so 1/2*2X which is equal to X.
