quotation marks around and triple braces:  .
Notice the A with circumflex above it that gets printed. 

Here is x² (x-squared) and x³ NOT in your notation.  They seems 
to work OK now, but not in your notation, I use x^2 and x^3 in your
notation.  If I try to use the x² and x³ in your notation I get
 and
