Question 1000183: Write equations for the following word statements. Complete transformations in the order given.
a) The graph of f(x) = x^2 is expanded horizontally by a factor of 4, reflected in the y-axis, translated 3 units to the left and translated 5 units upwards. Determine the equation of the transformed function g(x).
I'm confused as to how it should look when transformed in the order given, and the correct steps to do so. i know i should "simplify" the expression after each change but i cant seem to figure out how to simplify.
my answer: g(x)=(-1/4x+3)^2 +5

Question 1001575: Especially for the type problem listed below I get messed up on the part where I have to compensate for the distributive law, pretty much getting the common factor that gets thrown back in is difficult for me. Is there any way to easily know what should go where. It's hard for me to see exactly how it should be plugged back. Are there any tips/tricks for this to see it?

Here it the problem:
f(x) = (5/3)x^(2/3) + (10/3)x^(-1/3)
the answer is:
(5/3)x^(1/3) [x + 2] = 0
Please be detailed I really need to understand how this works. I can do other distribute problems well, but ones like these are harder for me.
Thank you
