substitute x+3 or y in the 1st equation. x+3+x=6
subtract 3 from both sides 2x=3
divide 2 intoboth sides. x=3/2=1.5
substitute 1.5 for x in the 2nd equation y=3+1.5=4.5
x=1.5 y=4.5
