Question 926120: Could you please show me the workings for the following equation please
3y+16=6y-1 Found 3 solutions by stanbon, MathLover1, ptaylor:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 3y+16=6y-1
----
Subtract 3y from both sides to get:
16 = 3y-1
---
Add "1" to both sides to get:
3y = 17
----
Divide both sides by 3 to get::
y = 17/3 = 5 2/3

You can put this solution on YOUR website! ok
3y+16=6y-1
First lets collect like terms (get the y's on one side and the numbers on the other)
We can do this by subtracting 16 from each side and also 6y from each side:
Here's what it looks like
3y+16-16-6y=6y-6y-16-1---- 16-16=0 and 6y-6y=0 and here's what we are left with:
3y-6y=-16-1
-3y=-17
y=-17/-3=17/3 we can leave it like this or divide it out
CHECK
3*(17/3)+16=6*(17/3)-1
17+16=34-1
33=33
Hope this helps---ptaylor
