Question 905048: I was given this problem:
(x+3)
----- = 21, y=3
y
Can you show me the steps to solve this, I thought I knew however my answers did not match the multiply choice options, so I must be doing something wrong.
These are the steps I took:
Plug 3 into the y denominator
Multiply both sides by three: this leads to the y denominator being eliminated the numerator becoming 3x+9, and the 21 becoming 63. 3x+9=63
Subtract the 9 from both sides: 3x=54
Divide both sides by 3: x=18.
18 wasn't an option so where am I going wrong in this problem?
