You can put this solution on YOUR website!
find the equation of a line passing through the points (-3,6) and (1,2)
------------
To find the slope, we use the change in y over change in x formula. +%286-2%29+%2F+%28-3-1%29+ = +%28-4%2F4%29+ = (-1)
Plug that into the slope-intercept formula: +y=+%28-1%29x%2Bb+ We can just write this as +y=+%28-x%29%2Bb+
Pick one of the points (it doesn't really matter) and plug that into the formula. I want to use (1,2).
+2=%28-1%29%281%29%2Bb+
+2=%28-1%29%2Bb+
+b=%283%29+
So now the formula looks like +y=%28-x%29%2B3+
We can plot this formula to make sure that the points are on the graph.
+graph%28+300%2C+200%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+y=%28-x%29%2B3%29+
