if you meant: (x+5x)/3=24
1) combine like terms
6x/3=24
2)multiply 3 to both sides:
6x=72
3)divide 6 to both sides:
x=12
if you meant: x + (5x/3)=24
1)multiply both sides by three:
3x+5x=72
2) combine like terms
8x=72
3)divide by 8 to both sides:
x=9
