This is like working a problem backwards, starting from the answer and ending up with a quadratic equation. Start with
x=5 and x= 12
Write each of these as mini-equations equal to zero.
x-5=0 and x-12=0

Now, write the product of these factors equal to zero:
(x-5)*(x-12)=0

Finally, multiply it all out:
x%5E2+-+17x+%2B+60+=+0
